  Abstract

The cyclic voltammogram and the electrochemical impedance spectra of lipid membrane formed on the solid gold electrode were measured and analyzed to investigate the effectiveness of several methods making the lipid multilayers. The measured spectra show that the freeze-thaw process of the unilamellar vesicle of the lipid deposited on the electrode was very effective for making the homogeneous lipid multilayers. The analysis carried out with the membrane defect model shows that the lipid multilayers acted as a purely capacitor and the submembrane reservoir and the membrane defect acted as resistors during the entire hydration process. The surface coverage of the electrode which indicates the homogeneity of the lipid multilayers attached on the electrode increased from 0.81 to 0.93. The lipid multilayers formed on the surface of the electrode by this method could be used for monitoring the biological activity of biomolecules electrochemically.
